Elon Musk and the World Economic Forum are at war over why he is not attending the World Economic Forum.

Every year, millionaire CEOs, world leaders, and other powerful personalities assemble in Davos, Switzerland, to address a wide variety of global challenges, from climate change to the cost of living crises.

Musk, a prominent opponent of the conference and the world’s richest person by December, recently stated that he was invited but opted not to attend. However, WEF leaders disagree, claiming that the Twitter CEO has not been invited in almost a decade.

The World Economic Forum’s spokesperson, Yann Zopf, told the Associated Press on Tuesday that Musk was not invited “this year or lately – the last time was in 2015.” Musk never registered for or attended the conference when he was invited in the 2010s, according to Zopf.

Meanwhile, Musk said last month in a tweet, “I was invited to the WEF but rejected.”

Another tweet said “My rationale for rejecting down Davos’ invitation wasn’t because I felt they were engaging in diabolical intrigue, it was because it sounded incredibly dull,” Musk said a week later.

Musk did not say if he was referring to the 2023 conference in his tweets, but the timing, a month before this year’s convention, implies he was.

The Tesla CEO has lately lambasted the World Economic Forum. In reaction to a video of Monday’s conference opening address, Musk tweeted, “How is WEF/Davos even a thing?”
