Elon Musk warns of “massive danger” looming over the world

Elon Musk envisions himself as CEO of everything.

The Tesla (TSLA) – Get Free Report Chef and SpaceX founder made his voice known on global concerns as his influence grew with his Twitter followers.

He does not limit his interests, and his supporters admire his forthright demeanor. He’s made a name for himself as a worldwide CEO.

And China has just given him another chance to put on his visionary hat.

China, the world’s most populated country, which is home to one-sixth of the world’s population, will see its population fall in 2022. It’s a figure that hasn’t been seen in six decades, and demographers believe it marks a historic turning point.

Since the 1960s, the country’s population has more than quadrupled to more than 1.4 billion people.

However, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of births in China in 2022 would be 9.56 million. At the same time, 10.41 million people died. Thus, the population drop was 850,000 persons.

Musk describes population reduction as a “major threat.”

This is the first time this has happened since 1960-1961, when a famine that began in 1959 killed tens of millions. This famine resulted from the collapse of the Great Leap Forward economic programs.

This latest fall occurred despite China’s recent relaxation of its birth control restrictions. Ten years ago, Chinese people could only have one kid. They can have three starting in 2021.

This decrease, which might endure until the end of the century, has the potential to severely harm the economy and the pension system.

For Musk, the Chinese statements support his warning that the world’s largest concern is population decrease.

“Population decline is a tremendous threat to civilization’s future!” On January 16, the millionaire made a statement.

He then used a message from the 2018 World Economic Forum to reinforce his warning and, more crucially, to demonstrate that he was correct. The conference warned of congestion in its message, while Musk has predicted for years that the globe does not have enough people.

“Overpopulation is a worldwide concern, even as birth rates decline,” the World Economic Forum tweeted on April 5, 2018.

“Population collapse, not overcrowding, is humanity’s existential dilemma!” Musk responded on January 17, 2023.

According to the United Nations, India will overtake China as the world’s most populous country this year.

The UN continued to estimate that China will not achieve its peak population until 2031-2032 in 2019. However, the fertility rate has already fallen to 1.15 children per woman in 2021, slightly over half the generational renewal criterion of 2.1.

Many local Chinese governments have made steps to encourage couples to have children.

Shenzhen, a southern Chinese city, has lately begun paying a birth bonus and allowances to children under the age of three. A couple expecting their first child will automatically receive 3,000 yuan ($443); if it’s their third, they’ll earn 10,000 yuan ($1,476). A family with three children will get a total of 37,500 yuan (US$5,536) in incentives and allowances.

However, whether such stimuli may reverse the curve is debatable. According to a research conducted by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, China’s population might drop by 1.1% every year on average. According to the most pessimistic projections of these demographers, the country’s population by 2100 might be as low as 587 million, or less than half of what it is now.

Despite the fact that he is not a demographer, Musk predicted a few months ago that China’s population will fall.

“The majority of people still believe China maintains a one-child policy. Despite a three-child policy, China had its lowest birth date ever last year!” Musk wrote in June of last year. “At current birth rates, China will lose 40% of its population each generation!” “Population extinction.”

In addition to China, the tech magnate predicts population loss in wealthier countries such as Japan.

He believes that encouraging people to have children is the remedy. The 51-year-old millionaire has nine children, three of whom are due in late 2021.
